On 20th January 2026, military chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba expressed a warning to current political opposition leader Bobi Wine to turn himself in to the police in the following two days.
In case he would not do so, military personnel would treat him as an outlaw and adapt persecution measurements accordingly.
In a time of political tension before the Ugandan presidential elections, many voices frame Muhoozi’s threat as another proof of crackdown.
