What has already begun as silencing of oppositional voices now unfolds more and more as a political crackdown in Uganda. Bobi Wine's wife Barbra Itungo Kyagulanyi has been raided by national military forces after which she was hospitalized due to her injuries resulting from the ambush.
According to her, the attack happened one day after Barbra switched on her husband's mobile phone, who is currently hiding in political exile. She assumed the government to have located the phone's signal and thus wanted to hunt down Wine. Thereafter, she was held down and tortured in order to share her husband's password, which she repeatedly refused. As any further use of force was futile, the raiders left while taking other valuable belongings from the house with them. This story is yet another sign of how extrajudicial violence unfolds in East Africa.
