On Wednesday 21st January 2026, the Delegation of the European Union in the DRC has confirmed to donate 2 Million € to the Congolese state in order to support stabilization efforts in the conflict torn zone of the country's east.
After the suspension of USAID last year, such endeavors are part of the EU's strategic positioning, as the organization has allocated 1,9 Billion € for humanitarian aid world wide (557 Million € for West- & Central Africa alone).
"This emergency response project will be implemented until the end of June 2026 and will benefit internally displaced populations in the hardest-hit areas of Uvira, Fizi and Kalehe," communicated the EU Delegation in DRC in its press release.
As this crisis resulted in more than 500,000 displaced Congolese citizens, the EU seizes an opportunity to fill the gap the Trump administration left behind.
