A Ghanaian lawmaker is under fire for allegedly leading a violent group to free suspects caught in illegal gold mining, known as galamsey. The clash happened on November 1 in the Ahafo Region.

What Happened

The National Anti-Illegal Mining Taskforce (NAIMOS) raided a galamsey site near Hwediem-Goaso Highway. They arrested two people, including a foreigner, and took weapons, cash, cars, and machines. Then, MP Ebenezer Kwaku Addo from Asutifi North showed up with armed supporters. He said he was following orders from another MP, Collins Dauda, to release the suspects and return the gear. When officials said no, Addo reportedly stirred up a crowd of over 600 people. The mob attacked the taskforce leader and trashed a police station. The suspects were freed, and the team escaped without arrests. Police are investigating, but no one has been charged yet. The MPs haven't commented.

Public Anger

Groups like the Bureau of Public Safety want Addo arrested now. On social media, people are furious, using hashtags like #StopGalamseyNow. Many blame the NDC party and call for real action.

Should the president arrest the two MPs immediately?
