On 19th January 2026, the Congolese anti-government armed group M23 has released the city of Uvira and was taken under control by national DRC military units as well as pro-Kinshasa “Wazalendo” forces.
According to the rebel group, this decision is meant to be an approach to current peace endeavors and thus the responsibility over the city should fall to the international community.
