Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado presented her Nobel Peace Prize medal to U.S. President Donald Trump during a White House meeting on Thursday, using the symbolic gesture to seek influence over U.S. involvement in shaping Venezuela’s political future.
Following the meeting, a White House official confirmed that Trump intends to keep the medal as a show of solidarity, while the president later thanked Machado in a social media post, calling the gesture a sign of “mutual respect." Machado, who described the talks as productive, said the gift recognized Trump’s commitment to advancing freedom for the Venezuelan people.
Subsequently, the White House released photographs of President Trump holding a framed display of the gold coloured medal.The inscription praised his leadership in promoting peace through strength and described the gift as a personal symbol of gratitude on behalf of Venezuelans.
