The Adenta Circuit Court in Accra has granted bail to self-styled prophet Evans Eshun, popularly known as Ebo Noah, following two weeks in police custody. He was arrested on December 31, 2025, after publishing viral videos predicting a catastrophic flood on Christmas Day and claiming to be building an ark to save people.

Court Decision

The court granted bail set at GH₵100,000 with two sureties. At least one surety must be backed by either a vehicle or landed property. Initially, the court demanded landed property for both sureties, but his lawyer, Emmanuel Sarfo, successfully argued for more flexible terms.

Ebo Noah is expected to reappear in court on March 18, 2026.

Psychiatric Evaluation

Earlier, the court ordered that Ebo Noah undergo a psychiatric assessment at Pantang Psychiatric Hospital. This was to determine whether his apocalyptic claims were the result of mental instability or deliberate misinformation. The evaluation was completed before bail was granted.

Charges

He faces charges of:

- Publishing false news

- False communication

- Misleading the public

Prosecutors argue that his viral prophecies caused unnecessary fear and panic among the public.

The case has sparked widespread debate:

- Supporters argue that his arrest infringes on freedom of speech and religious expression.

- Critics insist that his predictions were reckless and dangerous, capable of destabilizing communities.

- His lawyer also warned the public against a woman claiming to be his mother, describing her as an “imposter” whose comments should be ignored.

Ebo Noah remains under strict bail conditions until his next court appearance in March. The prosecution is expected to present evidence of his online activities and their impact on public order. The case is likely to test Ghana’s legal boundaries on false prophecy, misinformation, and freedom of expression in the digital age.
